it's the little things about home that i miss most.
how little? let me tell you:

at home there is a door that connects the laundry room to the garage. we use this door to enter and exit the house a lot. especially in the summer. besides the cars we have a fridge, all the sports equipment and all sorts of other garage-appropriate things in there.

now, the laundry room is quite small (maybe 3 feet by 8 feet), and then there is another door from the laundry room to the kitchen. we keep this door shut because the washing machine and dryer are noisy.

[are you picturing this?]

when you come rushing in from the garage and open the door to the kitchen a little rush of air enters the laundry room. it's not usually big enough to actually feel it, but i know it's there.

i usually don't shut the garage door all the way (because who really has time for that), just enough that it's touching the frame and a little bump would close it... without fail, that little rush of air will cause the garage door to shut completely.

it makes this soft closing sound. always.

{if you're still with me, i appreciate it}

i just rushed to the can [tmi? sorry] and didn't shut the door behind me completely, just enough that it's touching the frame.

my subconscious self expected to hear that soft sound of the door closing.
that sound didn't come.
i expected that sound.
i miss that sound.

i'm going home in 11 days. to get my fill of all those little things that make home, home.

i miss my creaky, twin-sized bed, i miss being able to run of the stairs in complete darkness and know exactly how many steps to take, i miss the glow of the fish take, i miss the purr and meow of the kitty, the bangbangbang of my siblings kicking a ball at the wall, i miss the inside jokes, the APPLEStoAPPLES, RISK, and CLUE, i miss the prayers brooklyn prays over our meals, the way she snuggles, i miss beau's jokes, my daddy's chuckles, and mom's knowing smile, i miss late night sister talks, and the way emma looks at me (her big sister, her example).

i miss it all. so much. somehow the doors around here don't close like they do at home.
