I am a big believer in the fact that we need to surround ourselves with people who build our confidence, faith, love, and hope. There are too many people who tear us down, use us for their own benefit, and dump us to the side when we've served our purpose. Many of these people are forced upon us (bosses, coworkers, family members, roommates, team members, etc). There is little we can do but learn what we can from them and try to protect ourselves from their negative effect.
But, so often we invite these people into our lives as friends or lovers. We put them in our closest circle and ask them to critique us and use us and judge us. We don't usually realize how they are influencing us; we sit there, feeling poorly about ourselves and never getting out, never getting away. Once this realization happens, usually after their influence has been so dramatically negative that you can't help but notice,we struggle to speak up and get away. It's hard.
If he makes you feel crappy, if she makes you doubt your worth, if you feel worse because of what he/she says/does, Please Do Something About It.
Don't be a victim, and don't let someone tear you down.
Their judgement is selfish, holier than thou, unproductive, and unnecessary.
Judgement of worth is so rampant in this world... but let me just remind you of one thing: "The worth of souls is great in the sight of God." We are equals in His sight... don't let convince yourself that you're better than anyone.
