Pornography Part 3: Prophets' Counsel

Come listen to a prophet's voice:


"Do we show our love to the Lord if we spend our time at R-rated movies, reading pornographic material, or involving ourselves in activities that would be degrading or unbecoming a daughter of God?" HERE


"... read or experience filthy magazines, vulgar movies or television shows, or remain in a group where unclean discussions occur. Each of these kinds of experiences will weaken any spirit, will make it less able to withstand “the fiery darts” of the adversary.
      Now, brethren of the priesthood, there should not be any X- or R-rated movies that we participate in viewing or talking about.  There must be no pornographic magazines, pictures, or stories, no re-telling of filthy jokes or crude experiences.  Have you the courage to keep out of your home some television shows that are filled with suggestive sexual conversation?  Have you thought lately how effective these shows are in piercing even the strongest spirits?  Brethren, we must not feed ourselves a diet of trash!" HERE -- this is a favorite of mine, stay tuned for further discussion

"Satan has made great inroads into the lives of some Latter-day Saints through the evil in the media. I am confident that the great majority of you have not been guilty of serious sexual sin, but many are placing themselves in a path that could lead to it. A bishop reported that he had observed that the spiritual level of the young priesthood bearers in his ward was declining. Through his personal interviews with them, he discovered that many of them were watching R-rated movies. When he asked them where they went to see such trash, they said, “We don’t go anywhere. We watch them at home. We have cable television, and when our parents are gone we watch anything we want to.” HERE


"Pornography though billed by Satan as entertainment is a deeply poisonous deceptive snake that lie coiled up in magazines, the Internet, and the television (and I would add movies to that list).  Pornography destroys self-esteem and weakens self-discipline.  It is far more deadly to the spirit than the rattle snake my father warned me not to pet.  
     Resisting the temptations of today's electronic media is not easy.  It takes focused courage and effort.  In the small town where I grew up I had to drive at least an hour to find trouble, but today on the Internet trouble is just a few mouse clicks away.  I know men young and old who have simply determined not to turn on the TV or surf the Inernet when they are alone.  Fathers it is wise to keep computers and televisions in the family room or other high-traffic areas in your home - not in children's bedrooms.  I also know of fathers who, while on business trips, wisely choose not to turn on the hotel television.Remember, such "fortifications" are not a sign of weakness.  On the countrary, they show strength.  

     One key fortification you can build is to decide now, before you face a challenge, where to draw the line. Our prophet teaches that if we decide now not to watch inappropriate media but instead to walk away, “the challenge is behind us." HERE
